Hawaii - East & North

This Macadamia Farm was great with heaps of free samples of all their range, free macadamia coffee and chocolate coffee macadamias, which were extremely addictive!

Further north we found a lovely beach as a place to have lunch. Lots of birds decided we were fair game though.

I even got my feet wet as I waded in the ocean.

"Crouching Lion"

Darryl wanted to do the Crouching Lion Hike. We tried to go up one way, but the walk was closed. At the bottom were photo memorials of girls who had died attempting it. We went partway up another way, but eventually I chickened out, so waited, but Darryl & Marc soon came back as they also decided the rock was too crumbly and dangerous to continue. (I was pretty relieved at that decision).

Further north we came to Sunset Beach where people were enjoying the sun and the surf.

Across from a school was the start of the Paumalu Bunker Hike. It started out ok, but soon became very slippery and muddy.

Darryl was really excited to find Pineapple Guavas growing wild and enjoyed some foraging

Darryl happy to be amongst She-Oaks (one of his favourite trees)

It's a popular hike and lookout

Inside the bunker

The paths weren't in a great shape, but it was better than the mud down lower.
We all saw whales. Then further around we stopped at Wahaiwa Botanic Gardens for dinner. It was closed, but we sat on the steps to eat the Pork with Poke (raw fish), and King Crab Spicy Poke (cooked), I had purchased from a grocery store.

  1. Good to remember what we did while there. Difficult at first to remember how to drive on the wrong side of the road especially when thrown into the deep end at Honolulu with 4 lanes of traffic exceeding the speed limit.
