The friendly chooks came out to greet us (well see if we brought food really)
Our little Hawaian girl
Breakfast with a swim at Honokahua Bay, Fleming Park
That headland in the background was where we camped the night
Got groceries at "Times" then drove to Haleakala Volcano National Park.
Aussie Gum Trees were everywhere
Up in the clouds along a steep winding road
$30 entry for 3 nights
Perfect timing arriving at this lookout as the clouds just parted long enough for us to get a fabulous view of the crater
Cute little Chukar partridge. There were a pair.
Here I am at the top! But, it was too cloudy to see anything.
Back down to the Haleakala outlook and again perfect timing for a view. Arrived at the Hosmer Grove camp ground. Did the nature walk and saw Nene geese, Ring-necked pheasant, Iiwi, Apapane, Alauahio, Eucalyptus and Pines.
It was lucky we arrived early. We didn't get the best spot but got a pretty good one close to the shelter and toilets. Some tourists from Slovakia and Chechnia chatted with us while we ate.
Surprisingly, very few tourists bothered to do the .45 mile walk to the Leleiwi Overlook to see the crater. They must have thought as it was a white out near the carpark, there would be nothing more to see at the overlook.
