Cape York Trip - Day 27

We woke early to lots of  birds and a cow crossing the bridge!

This was the worst road section, but Darryl found the ‘sweet-spot’ for us at 80kph in 4x4 and the tyre pressure down 20% for the smoothest ride. At one point there was an area where it had previously been burnt, and lovely cycads had re-grown their leaves and were almost glowing in the morning light.

Bramwell Roadhouse was our stop for morning tea, and it had very clean facilities and $1.98 diesel, water but no phone.

The road was bordered by Orange Grevilleas. An absolutely delightful stop was Fruitbat Falls where we had lunch and swim.
I don't think this photo really shows you how beautiful Fruitbat Falls are

It was wonderful after all the dust on the road. There were fish in the pools, several types of carnivorous plants including giant pitcher plants.

The first river crossing, even the ‘chicken track’ on the Old Telegraph Route was not for us, so we went on to Crystal Creek where another set of ‘chickens’, Pennie & Scott, joined us.

There were slow fires the other side of the creek, but the pools were blue and there were more giant pitcher plants.
