Cape York Trip - Day 31

Loading bauxite at Weipa

Getting the bauxite onto ships for transport to Gladstone (supposedly)

This was such a boring bit of road that our entertainment was watching the evidence of a disintegrating tyre from a previous vehicle until the point where it went completely. A huge Wedge-tail eagle was on road-kill and wasn’t shifting for anyone.

Morning tea was at Picannini Plains. We successfully negotiated the Quarantine Inspection Station.3 emus were on the road and we saw a flock of Red-tailed black cockatoos. We stopped at Quinkan Hotel in Laura, picking up our camper-trailer and having another enjoyable meal at the pub, and slept the night well away from the rooster!
