We decided to try and find the Ochre pits, so headed over the swing bridge and along the creek, to the site that Darryl had found earlier.

On the way out of the National Park, we stopped at the Ranger Station to check the information hut, which 'had' been a school. The Ranger house had been one of the station houses. Before we got to the shelter for lunch we encountered quite a few cattle, and lots of Wedgetail Eagles. Emus were also plentiful striding elegantly through the grass.

Major Mitchell campsite was 32km from the town of Mitchell. A cairn and information board told lots of the history, and a tree showed the blaze left by Edmund Kennedy.

This would have been quite a nice place to camp, but we were heading for Mitchell, where we booked into Major Mitchell caravan park. Across the river was the Artesian spa, and after setting up camp, Dell and I walked across the bridge and enjoyed the warm relaxing water. The Spa had a $20 Roast dinner special so that seemed perfect for Dell's birthday dinner.

A delicious supper with the birthday cake was back at kitchen in the van park. All night it was pretty noisy with trucks on the road and bridge, which was very close to where we were camped.
