Kimberleys Trip 19 May 2019

We left Jerico before 8am. At Barcaldine we admired what they have done with the "Tree of Knowledge", and a large windmill in the main street.

It wasn't long before we saw Emus and farming goats in paddocks. The road was long and straight road, but bordered by very green paddocks. At Ilfracombe we spent some time looking at their machinery display, and the further west we went the more we became aware of the flies, bindis & tumbleweed.

We got fuel at Longreach and saw another 3 Emus. Lunch at Corregon was shared with the flies. Flocks of Budgerigars darted before us, and another 2 Emus strolled in the paddocks.

At Winton we got more fuel, and were able to have free (but cold) showers at Hollow Log Park. Just after crossing the Diamantina River we saw a Plains Turkey (or Bustard), and at Castle Hill there were kangaroos on the road.

Our first Wedgetail Eagle of the trip was sitting on a carcass on the road, and we enjoyed stunning scenery with spinifex & jumpups between Castle Hill & Mt Irons. Amazingly, there seemed to be a rainbow following us.

We started to become aware that flies were going to be a problem with many finding Darryl's many sores and scratches quite attractive.

At Middleton there is free camping beside the pub, and of course it is polite to go to the pub for a drink and a home-cooked dinner, which was silverside or rissoles and was delish!

Lester & Val, the hosts were real bush characters, and everyone had a good night.

A full moon shone all night, apart from when it rained, but everything was dry by morning.
