Kimberleys Trip 25 May 2019

We took off around 8:30am on a corrugated dirt road with some mudholes.

A grader was doing up the road, and then further along he had done the whole road so it was an easy drive. Around 10km from the Stuart Highway we pulled in to the Henbury Meteorite Craters, walked around the craters and had morning tea.

Darryl spotted a big snake on the road, before we got back to Alice Springs to wash clothes, do some shopping, and get fuel. It was a late lunch at Jessie Gap, which was quite a picturesque spot and had some Aboriginal Art.

Our goal for the day was Ruby Gap, so we passed all the other sights as we planned to look at them on the way back.

Spotted a donkey on the way in then passed a motorhome coming out. We flagged him down and spoke to him. He had made it to the river then got caught up on the  big rocks and turned back. The road had recently been graded so was no-where near as rough as we had been expecting, although some sections were very narrow. Even so, it was pretty slow going, and we arrived after dark just outside Ruby Gap Gorge Park. As it was too dark to see what we were up to, and being cautious from what the motorhome driver had said, we were not game to go further in case we couldn't turn around, and set up on a flat section. Darryl set up a clothesline for our washing done in the Alice.

It was another lovely night with a campfire and the Milky Way, and we had donkeys and cattle calling most of the night, and dingos howling, (at least 3). We have heard that donkeys are run with the cattle to protect them from the dingos.
