Kimberleys Trip 26 May 2019
Darryl headed off around 7:15am looking for garnets, and I stayed in bed an extra half an hour. While he was gone a couple came out with a camper, Jan and Rebecca, and I spoke with them for ages. They also were interested in the Tanami Road but were also concerned about travelling alone. We thought we might be able to organise to travel together. Darryl arrived back and had found a small garnet! This was the 40th anniversary of us getting engaged, so just perfect.
We packed up and headed off, meeting 3 dirt bikers coming in. We stopped at Arltunga Gold Reserve for lunch, then investigated at the historical buildings, the old Police Station & Goal, chimneys, before going up to Joker Gorge to see round house, and chimneys.
Darryl walked up the hill to the mine. The camping there didn't look much so we went on to Trephina Gorge to camp for the night. There were a lot of vehicles on the road. We turned in for the gorge and saw a few wallabies, (the first since we came to NT), and really enjoyed the beautiful red rock formations glowing in the sunset.
Of course we had wine and cheese to celebrate 40 years since our engagement, and Darryl made pancakes. There were still lots of flies until the sun set, but we were learning to cope with them. I got some nice star photos.
