Kimberleys Trip 27 May 2019

We packed up and went for the Trephina Gorge Loop Walk.

First it took us up along the top where we got lovely photos of the cliffs, then at the end of the gorge we came back down into the creek and walked along that. Part way was aboriginal artwork on the rocks, but very few signs of animals, (mostly cattle & horse dung, and a few bird tracks), apart from human footprints. Darryl felt that this gorge was actually nicer than the Kings Canyon one.
I was impressed by spines of rocks up the ridges that reminded me of a Triceratops back. Morning tea was at Emily Gap, on our way back to Alice Springs for fuel and supplies, before heading out along the Larapinta & Namatjira Drives to the gorges.

Just out of town is the John Flynn Memorial. He was a minister who started the Flying Doctor service and School of the Air for those living in the Outback.

A donkey on side of road didn't flinch as we went by, then 3 Kangaroos crossed the road in front of us at 2:45 in the afternoon. We stopped at the Namatjira Memorial, which commemorates the life of Albert Namatjira the reknown Aboriginal artist.

This road had lots of horses including a Palamino. We turned in for Palm Valley in Finke Gorge National Park.

It is a 4x4 road so Darryl let tyres down. Some of the way was just driving up the river bed, but this was a lovely spot with great campsites & flushing toilets.

"Hot" showers, mine was warm and I think Darryl's was cold. We invited a neighbour, Peter, over for happy hour then another couple wandered by, Mark and Deborah. They were Rocky locals and previously lived in Gladstone, Mark worked at QAL and Deborah worked for QH. Mark set up a campfire and we chatted with them, Peter and another couple Naomi and Max until around 9:30. Then we all headed off to wash up and go to bed. It felt as though it was going to be cold tonight so put on my thermals & beanie.
