Kimberleys Trip 24 May 2019

It was the coldest morning yet at 7oC. We took it easy packing up and checked out around 10am. I overheard the reception telling someone on the phone that they were completely booked out, and some people had booked 4 months in advance, as this is the busiest season. The night before we were aware of at least one old couple who had to sleep in their car in the overflow camping area as they couldn't get a room. My thigh muscles and shoulder muscles were very sore.
We stopped at Mt Connor Lookout for late morning tea, then saw 2 Wedgetail eagles on a carcass.

Kings Creek Station was the stop for fuel and lunch, and after that there were camels & horses on the road. King's Canyon is one of the inconic walks and we both did the creek walk, which was disappointingly closed part of the way as work was being carried out on it.

Then Darryl did the 3-4hour rim walk in 1hr 35 mins while I waited in the shade area and copied photos off the camera. On the drive out we saw a feral cat and a black dingo.

We took the shortcut road, which is unsealed, back towards the Stuart Highway and just stopped at a gravel pit overnight. It was very quiet, only 1 car went past us, and a couple of trucks on the other road. We were able to enjoy the campfire and the Milky Way.
