Kimberleys Trip 28 May 2019
It was 3.4oC before the sun rose, but I was warm in bed. We packed up, then left the camper-trailer while we drove down to Palm Valley, leaving the car at the Cycad Grove to walk the rest of the way.
The walk took us up on the top of the gorge then down into the valley.
The red sand was sparkling in the sun. Mark & Deborah were walking it the other direction, and then we met Peter doing the same. By the time we got back too the start of the walk there were 5 other vehicles but we still had about a kilometer to walk back to ours. Back at the campsite we made morning tea and took off to the lookout, then headed back out to the bitumen.
Along the way were Xanthorreas, and some interesting-looking mountains. We stopped for lunch at Tyler's Pass Lookout.
Peter turned up and told us we had been looking at a meteorite crater in the distance, so we back-tracked to have a look (Gosses Bluff).
This was one of the most amazing thing I had ever seen, it turned out to be a 22km wide crater from when a comet hit the earth. We drove right inside it, and we then walked up to the lookout. Camping was not allowed so we drove to Redbank Gorge to set up for the night.
Peter was there and afterwards Mark & Deborah arrived too, so we had Happy Hour together. Next to us was a Motorhome, and Peter & Kerrie shared their fire after dinner.
