North Queensland - 2 Sep 2021

Around 3am a thunderstorm came through with heavier rain. We thought we would see how things were going by 5am, so waited until just after 6 when it was a bit lighter.

Darryl got soaked to the bone

I couldn't resist another photo of the Springs with the rocks all wet and glistening

We packed up to drive over the creek before having breakfast, but as soon as Darryl turned on the car the Malfunction Indicator Light came on. That was crunch time and we decided to abandon looking at the mining heritage, and get off the dirt road and back onto the highway. Luckily, on the highway, but just across the road was the Fountain Springs Rest Area with toilets and shelters, (so we could boil up without getting wet as it was still raining).

Still raining!

We also had phone signal to call RACQ, so sat and waiting for him to turn up from Mt Isa. He arrived around 9:30am in the big tow-truck. He used a code reader to cancel the code for the DPF, and told us "it was one of those things that happen" (it 'still' hasn't come back on).

RACQ...our hero!

So then we headed back to Cloncurry, booked in to Wal's Camp, then checked out the dam, lookout, cemetery, and heritage display at the Tourist Info.

Nice views over the town from the lookout

The water tank at the lookout has some gorgeous artwork

This is the Cloncurry Parrot (we saw one, but it was too quick for a photo)

Al & Dell arrived from Mackay.

I could not resist the glow of the special light after rain
