North Queensland - 5 Sep 2021

Buff-sided Robin

We wanted to do the Lawn Hill Stack Island Walk. The swing bridge had been washed away, so we crossed where trees had fallen across the creek.

More extreme damage to the Cabbage Tree Palms from the Locusts

This area is called 'Lower Gorge'

We took the lower track, anti-clockwise first, and then we took the steep single track up to the top of the stack to the lookouts.

Emu berry

Very ancient engraved art pecked in the sandstone wall

Waanyi Country - rainbow images are the Dreamtime Boodjamulla (rainbow serpent)

It's a long way down

Ring-tail dragon

Tidal ripples trapped forever in the sandstone

Coming back down off the Stack I thought the Botanical Walk looked good, but it wasn't so great.

This is the Botanical walk

Mistletoe

Native water-lilly

A quiet pond at the end of the walk

Some nasty looking burrs

This is how we had to cross the creek

This is Tufa, formed by lime rich water evaporating and leaving calcite deposits

I think this is a Honeyeater...anyone?

Then is was time for another lovely swim. We had a great chat with Ranger Mal. A little wallaby came around the camp. Gaynor came over to the tent camp for happy hour with us. A bit of a gusty wind came out at night after the flying foxes had gone from their roosts.
