South Australia 5 May 2023

The further south we go the cooler it is overnight and we woke to 3.5C.

That almost looks like frost on our windscreen.

This was our first time to Lightning Ridge.

Of course we 'had' to have a dip in the free hot pool. It was fabulous.

A map of the artesian experience.

About the 'Old Town'.

The country is pretty dry and dusty.

But there are lots of interesting places to see, like this rock house.

Or a rock castle - Ridge Castle.

Or a bottle sculpture.

Or a huge prickly pear.

Mullock heaps.

More rock castles.

We were following the 'car door self-guided driving tour'

Ion Idriess took up this opal mine on Lunatic Hill.

Stanley the Emu up close

Stanley, from the Big Emu Rest Area just outside Lightning Ridge

Brewarrina Rest Stop for the night

Wattle nearby

Delicious lamb chop and home-grown eggplant
