Kimberleys Trip 12 June 2019

We set off at 7:26am, (it was 18.5oC), and pulled in to Mary Pool. There must have been 40 campers, so we were pleased we hadn't camped there. We enjoyed spectacular rock features, more Brolgas, and at Fitzroy Crossing saw a Helicopter mustering cattle.

Turning off to next section of road, which was gravel, we let our tyres down and had morning tea. The first feature was Devonian Reef Conservation Park with sandstone ridges with Boabs which followed the road for kilometers. We arrived at Tunnel Gorge, which was amazing walking through pools with crocodiles sitting in them, to the other end of the tunnel.

Red eyes glinting at us as we waded through their pool

Some of the aboriginal art

The crocs were really unconcerned about people

There was one big collapse, lots of stalactites and stalagmites, along with roots through the rock and down into the water. At the other end we found some Aboriginal art. Around 30km or so down the road was Winjana Gorge and we arrived just to see the colours on the Karst Limestone cliffs behind the camping area.

This camping area had hot showers and flushing toilets, and I really enjoyed my shower. Darryl produced a really delicious wine which went down well with a Brie. A flock of flying foxes went over, and there was at least one little bat flitting around the campsite picking up insects. The campground was pretty full. I noticed that our car started making the backing alarm when Darryl hit the brakes.
