Kimberleys Trip 14 June 2019

It really was warm at 19.9oC. Darryl discovered there was a little creek near us with a waterfall which was the water supply for the campground.

The pond below the hidden waterfall

It was very dry and even the doves landing on the ground were kicking up dust. We were packed up and left before 8am, having a near miss when a wallaby jumped across ahead of us. Yellow native hibscus were along the roadside, and a couple of Kurrajong with red flowers. There were plenty of tyre remains on the road and 1 wrecked car with a Jurassic Park logo. We passed a truck with a caravan on the back, and 2 idiots walking along the dusty road. Around Apex Creek we stopped to look at some distinctive black & orange rocks. They formed a mini range in front of another range of hills which were composed of a different type of rock, which we thought could be granite. There was also a  distinctive aroma in that area. Finally we made it back to the first section of bitumen so stopped to pump up the tyres and made a cuppa. At Derby I bought a new cable for my phone and it was alive!!! There was still some connection issue, but it was ok once it was charged up. Doing the touristy thing, we had fish and chips on the pier at Derby...looking at the Timor Sea. This is also the mouth of the Fitzroy River, (the 'other' one in WA)!

The car was fueled up and Darryl went shopping while I stayed in the car. An aboriginal man, Ian came up and started chatting to me. Outside town was another prison boab tree and the world's longest water trough.

There were quite a few red-tailed black cockatoos in the trees. Heading east again we made it to the Boab Rest area and set up after sundown, but it wasn't quite dark. I got a great shot of the moon and the boab tree, which looks like the moon is coming out of an eagle's nest,  then enjoyed a good sleep.
