Kimberleys Trip 17 June 2019
We drove on a further 30km, or so, down the gravel road to look at Palm Springs.
It would have been another 6km to Sawpit Gorge, and a guy we spoke to said it wasn't worth the extra, so after looking at the pool with date palms we headed back to Old Hall's Creek Township. This is the original township which was the site of the first gold rush in WA. Someone had done a lot of work putting in cairns, and someone else had done a lot of damage removing the plaques on them. They had put a roof over the original mudbrick Government building, which was made of speargrass and anthill in 1886.
I could not believe it, but we passed a cyclist! There were lots of abandoned cars and car-parts on the sides of the road, but also lots of purple wildflowers. Closer to new Halls Creek is China Wall. This is a very interesting seam of vertical white quartz rising up just like the great wall of China in the middle of the vertical slate, and it's called 'China Wall'.
We made it back to Kunnunurra for groceries and fuel before leaving WA, and going to Keep River National Park in the Northern Territory for the night. We arrived after the sun had gone down, (and scored the very last camping site), had our meal then headed straight to bed. Darryl was exhausted from the long drive.
