Kimberleys Trip 5 June 2019

One of the features of Wyndham is the 5 Rivers Lookout which afforded views of the 5 rivers!

In town we bought fuel and drove out to see the Port, passing some interesting old trains.

It was too early for the museum so we headed out over the salt lake to the Spillway then Moochalabra Dam, which is the water supply for Wyndham.

Two Brolgas in the creek seemed very unconcerned about us being so close.

There was a little Picnic area with huge Boab for morning tea, after which we marvelled at the Aboriginal art on escarpment.

The Brolgas were still in the creek on the way out again, so we stopped to take more photos.

The Prison Boab tree is a marked tourist spot, and although large, wasn't that spectacular, so we went on and through the gate to the Karunjie Track.

Darryl decided to turn back, soon after, as the road was pretty rough and the sign said it was not maintained. We had lunch beside the King River, on a bank high enough to be well away from any potential crocodiles, (but didn't see any), and headed back to Wyndham and the bitumen for a while.

There was about 31km of bitumen along the Gibb River Road, and after hitting the gravel road we decided to stop the night at Home Valley Station.

They are very well set up with a campground, Bar & Restaurant, tours, helicopters, animals etc. We found a good spot, ate dinner, then went over to the Bar where they had a projected screen of the State of Origin, and quite good live music.

We had a drink, but went to bed when the teams were even so don't know who won.
