Kimberleys Trip 6 June 2019

There were quite a few self-guided walks so we booked in for another night, then left at 7:30am on the walk to Bindoola Gorge.

The track was fairly well marked but dusty, and burnt in sections. I got quite a few photos of wildflowers, and some birds. The Gorge is fairly small, but there were some large pools of water. We sat quietly by the pool for a while to get photos of birds, but there didn't seem to be any fish or turtles. We walked to the end then came back via the creek, over large boulders, (my ankles got a real workout). We arrived back at camp around 10:33am just in time for a cuppa, and heard from the chopper pilot that Qld won the football game which was nice for Qld Day.

After lunch we had a short nap and around 2:30pm took the Gorge Lookouts walk. There were a few opportunities for bird photos, but we also saw 3 dragons, and got some photos of one who seemed to enjoy the attention rather than scampering away. Darryl was getting a bit frustrated with the birds who seemed to want to hide behind every branch. One part of the gorge view was disappointing because the sun was behind it, but it was good that we continued on as the second last viewpoint had the sun lighting it up.

On the walk back we and went part way up Baldy Hill, for a very nice panorama of the escarpment of the Pentecost Range lit up by the dropping sun. The sun set at 5pm, just as we arrived back at camp. After dinner we again went over to the bar to listen to the music, but then decided it was just as nice listening in the camper.
