Kimberleys Trip 16 June 2019

It was 16.7oC but felt colder due to the wind. We got away early around 7:30am and in just under 2 hours had turned down the Tanami Road towards 'Wolfe Creek Crater'.

This was 130km of corrugations, dust and traffic which Darryl says was "a long way just to see a hole in the ground". The crater is the result of a meteorite hit 300,000 years ago. I found it quite interesting, from the rim you could see the centre with an internal salt pan ringed by trees. It is on Ruby Plains Station owned by the Kidmans.

Darryl grew his beard to look a little 'fiercer', but he thinks he looks awful with it...I think he got the desired effect!

An old worker's cottage on wheels

But it's probably not very mobile anymore...

We got fuel back in Halls Creek before setting out to Caroline Pool to set up camp for the night. There still is a pool of water, and I got some nice rock shots in the setting sun and Darryl shot some birds getting water.

There was only one other lot of campers here and they were far away from us. After dinner we watched the almost full moon rise, and the insectivorous bats swooping above us.
